BlogBridge is an excellent, free RSS feed reader. Over the last few months, here are the errors that I have commonly experienced and how I have fixed them.
I love BlogBridge as my RSS feed reader. I have been using it for quite a while now. It is currently under very active development, so I happily ignore a few problems. However, I have figured out how to work around the problems I experience the most.
Database Corruption:
Something about BlogBridge causes it to occassionally crump the database. I do not know why. It is frequently reported in the BlogBridge forums as well.
Nuking your BlogBridge database and restoring it will typically fix the problem. If you subscribe to the BlogBridge online service, then restorting your feeds from their free system is easy. If you do not, you can restore from one of BlogBridge’s OPML backup files.
Just navigate to your personal .bb directory. This is typically found in the directories listed below. On Windows systems, simply replace
XP:
C:\Documents and Settings\
Vista:
C:\Users\
Linux:
~\.bb\
The database is found in either the final or weekly subfolder. In these folders, you can find your OPML backup files if you need them.
Just save your OPML file (if you need it), and delete the rest of the files. Afterwards, restart BlogBridge, and restore your information either using BlogBridge’s online service or from importing your saved OPML file.
BlogBridge and Vista Incompatility:
Like many other java programs, BlogBridge did work well in Vista builds prior to 5472. Common error messages would include the following:
BlogBridge.exe - Unable To Locate Component
---------------------------
This application has failed to start because MSVCR71.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.
Error
---------------------------
Failed to load Java VM library: C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0\bin\client\jvm.dll (errno = 126).
To fix this issue, uninstall Java, and uninstall BlogBridge after upgrading Vista to the latest version. Then reinstall Java, and reinstall BlogBridge.
