The BlackBerry 6.0 OS has some great new features such as a new browser, revamped media player, and a modified homescreen. Unfortunately, not all carriers are making it available. Here’s how to get BlackBerry 6.0 OS on your 9700.
First, make sure that you have installed the BlackBerry Desktop software on your computer, you can get it from here. After installation, use the Desktop software to make a backup of your device.
Go Blackberry Site and select BlackBerry Bold (TM) 9700 smartphone from the dropdown menu and click the Next button. Click the Download link for BlackBerry Handheld Software v6.0… Fill out the required fields (you can enter anything for job title and company) and click the Next button. Scroll to the bottom of the page, select the Agree radio button and click the next button. Finally, click the Download button.
Once the software has been downloaded, install it onto your computer.
After the software has been installed, connect your BlackBerry Bold 9700 to your computer using the USB cable.
On your computer, go to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader and delete vendor.xml. Staying in the AppLoader directory, doulbe-click Loader.exe to install the OS onto your handheld device. After a few reboots, your BlackBerry Bold will be running the BlackBerry 6.0 OS.
