How to Stream Live on TikTok: A Step-by-Step Guide

Streaming live on TikTok is similar to going live on a Facebook page or Instagram. This feature wasn’t available when TikTok hadn’t gone a major revamp and was still called Musical.ly. However, after its enormous popularity, it garnered the attention of investing bigwigs. Since its inception in 2014, TikTok has garnered a massive userbase of over 200 million users. Yes, 200 million!

And for good reason.

Despite the increase in video sharing apps, TikTok has its own online identity. The app limits you to record videos up to the 1-minute mark.

This increases user engagement and helps viewers to absorb a truckload of video content without sapping their concentration levels.

This limitation also helps content makers to save time and compete in equal proportions with others.

These were some of the foundational elements that compelled China’s Bytedance to scrub Musical.ly for a mammoth 1billion US dollars and further improve its functionality.

From adding text to your TikTok videos to slowing them down, Bytedance has taken massive strides to improve the app’s features.

In this Tech-Recipe, we’re going to discuss another newly added feature: live streaming. We will cover everything from its activation to its conditions.

TikTok Live Streaming Conditions

Unfortunately, unlike other social media platforms, not every TikTok user is permitted to start a Live Video on the platform.

I don’t really know why TikTok has imposed this condition, but it’s probably to deter spam and copyright infringement.

We often see on Facebook that users who’ve had their accounts banned for streaming copyrighted content make new accounts and continue to break Facebook’s terms of use.

That’s why TikTok has only trusted users with their live streaming feature who already have at least a 1000 followers on their platform.

Keep in mind that this number might vary from country to country.

If you’re having trouble amassing followers on the platform, check our guide on how to get famous on TkTok fast.

Streaming Live on TikTok: Step-by-Step

1. Open the TikTok app.

2. Click the + Sign in the middle of your TikTok homepage.

3. As your camera is activated to record your video, go to the text underneath the Red Record button and swipe to your left to switch from Video to Live.

4. Give your Live Video an appropriate title. Make sure it doesn’t have any explicit words. Otherwise, your video will get censored.

5. Tap and hold the Record Button, renamed to Go Live now, and you’re good to go.
