XP Home: Registry Edit to Disable Taskbar Modifications

To prevent changes from being made to the taskbar in Windows XP Home, use the steps in the following tutorial. This will disable the option to unlock the taskbar.

XP home is missing a few registry folders and options that are included with XP Pro. Here is a modification for XP Home that prevents users from unlocking the taskbar.

If you are not comfortable editing the registry, please do not try this.

1. First, right-click the system tray, and check Lock Taskbar.
2. Next, open Regedit, and go to path HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\Explorer.
3. Create a DWORD key LockTaskBar, double-click, and set the value to one.

Now, the option to unlock the taskbar is not available.
