Pocket PC Tips / Tricks

The following tutorial contains pocket PC tips for avid PDA users. Follow these instructions to improve performance, simplify use, and to prolong the life of your PDA.

Pocket PC Tips

1. If you have a memory card and use it often, be sure to defrag it once a month or more to help with performance.

2. Setup your hotkeys to simplify use, especially if you use your PDA as an mp3 player.

3. Get into the habit of putting your PDA on the charger/sync when you are at your desk so that your PDA is fully charged and synced when you do need to go.

4. Make backups of your PDA regularly. (Just like any data, if it is important, back it up.) I once owned an Compaq Ipaq 3630 and did the full backup. After that, I would let my battery run all the way out and then clear the RAM and reload my backup. This also does a power cycle and can help with battery life (by draining completely and recharging fully). This seems to help with performance issues. Just like any pc, the memory in the PDA gets defragged. Doing a restore usually solves that.

5. If you have a cell phone, get a data cable. For Sprint users, get the unlimited data plan for $10 and you will have unlimited Internet anywhere on the Sprint network for $10! There are no bandwidth restrictions or use of voice minutes.

6. Protect your screen, and use the screen protectors. You will be glad you did when you decide to upgrade and want to sell it. It lets you use your finger to touch the screen without worries.
