OpenOffice.org Writer: Add Line Numbers to a Document

When collaborating on a lengthy document, it is easier to refer a reader to line 430 instead of having to tell them its the third line in the second paragraph on page 7 of the document. To add line numbers to your document, follow these steps:

1. Click Tools and select Line Numbering.

2. Check the Show Numbering checkbox.

3. Select the position of the line numbers from the Position dropdown.

4. Select the numbering interval from the Interval dropdown.

5. Click OK.

6. Save the document.

Once you no longer need the line numbers, you can easily remove them by doing the following:

1. Click Tools and select Line Numbering.

2. Uncheck the Show Numbering checkbox.

3. Click OK.

4. Save the document.
