Vista: How To Set the AutoPlay Options

Vista utilizes the AutoPlay function to perform the appropriate task when a CD or DVD disc is inserted. Depending on the type of media on the disc (audio, DVD movie, pictures, audio files, etc.), Windows will take the action you selected and perform it for that media type. AutoPlay can be quite useful once you have customized it to meet your needs. Follow these steps to set Vista’s AutoPlay options:

1. Go to the Control Panel.

2. Select Hardware and Sound.

3. Under {bAutoPlay, select Change default settings fo media or devices.

4. A dialog box will appear, giving you a dropdown list of actions for different media types.

5. Use the dropdowns to customize the settings to meet your needs. For media types that you want to have no default action set, select Ask Me Every Time.

6. Click Save.

If you decide that you do not like the choices you made, you can reset AutoPlay to its default settings by scrolling to the bottom of the list and clicking the Reset all defaults button.
