The new KDE (K Desktop Environment) is a great way to add some very nice eye candy and additional functionality to your Ubuntu install. KDE’s new look and smooth graphical effects give your desktop some of the benefits of both Mac and Vista.
The first thing you will need to do is to edit your sources.list file. To do this, open a terminal window and input the following:
sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list
When prompted, input your administrator password.
The sources.list file will open. Scroll to the bottom of the file, then copy and paste the following:
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/kubuntu-members-kde4/ubuntu gutsy main
Click Save and close the window.
Go back to your terminal window and input the following to update the source list:
sudo aptitude update
You are now ready to install KDE 4.0. Simply input the following command into your terminal window:
sudo aptitude install kde4-core
After your system has been restarted, select KDE 4 from your login manager.
