Kopete is the KDE instant messenger client that can be used to chat with the Yahoo, AIM, MSN, ICQ and Jabber protocols. You can also utilize Kopete to chat using Google Talk by following these steps:
1. Open Kopete.
2. Click Settings and select Configure.
3. Select Accounts from the left pane.
4. Click the New button.
5. Select Jabber for the Messaging Service.
6. Click Next.
7. Input your Gmail address as the jabber ID ([email protected]).
8. Check the Remember password checkbox.
9. Input your password for your Gmail account in the Password textbox.
10. Click the Connection tab.
11. Check both the Use protocol encryption and Allow plain-tet password authentication checkboxes.
12. Check the Override default server information checkbox.
13. In the Server checkbox, change the server to talk.google.com and make sure the port is set to 5223.
14. Click Next.
15. Select a custom color for the account (uncheck the checkbox if you don’t want a custom color) and click Finish.
16. Kopete will try to connect. A message will appear stating that the certificate could not be validated. Click Continue.
17. Kopete will then conect to Google Talk.
