Well, these days at work i’m kind of the go-to-guy on our pdas/smartphones. I’ve had a few problems with a couple versions of Palm’s Treo; mainly the 600, 650, 700P and Goodlink. This recipe will help you get your Goodlink to start getting new emails again without a hard reset.
Devices: Palm Treo 600; 650; 700P
Goodlink Client: 4.9.x but may work on older clients
Symptom(s): No new emails arrive or can be sent. Data connection will appear fine and getting online w/the Phones browser will work fine.
After searching the web endlessly for a solution, i ran across a few posts on the Goodlink forum boards. The problem seems to lie in how Goodlink handles (or doesn’t) memory and these older phones don’t do it like Goodlink wants to. Yet the carriers will blame Goodlink or Palm and Palm will blame Goodlink.
Basically by repovisioning the goodlink account from the device will fix this problem.
1. Soft reset the phone
2. Go into goodlink; it will ask to turn on the phone. do so.
3. At the first screen in goodlink, type: debug
on the devices keypad. A command line will appear at the bottom of the screen.
4. In the command line box, type: reprov
5. This will re-intiate the reprovision process on the phone and in turn wipe the devices goodlink client info and redownload all of it. This may take 15 minutes or so to do.
So far this has worked on every Treo that has had this problem. The only other supposed way to fix this is by getting a new phone. Updating the ROM/Firmware did not help in the long term for several of my users.
Also, you may still have it happen again and may need to do this again. But it sure beats doing a hard reset or telling your user that he/she needs to get a new phone!
