Google Talk: Create Desktop Shortcuts for Contacting Each of Your Friends

Instead of going into Google Talk, hunting for your Friend’s name, and selecting it to begin a chat session, you can create a desktop icon for each Friend that you frequently chat with. Clicking on the desired shortcut will open a chat window with the associated Friend. Saves you some time and let you get right to the chat.

1. Right-click on your desktop.

2. Mouseover New and select Shortcut.

3. When prompted to input the location of the item, insert the following:
gtalk:chat?jid=<username>@gmail.com

where <username> is your Friend’s Google Username.

4. Click Next.

5. When prompted to input a Name for your shortcut, use something that identifies who the shortcut is for.

6. Click Finish.

Repeat the above steps for each shortcut you wish to create. When finished, group the icons together so they are easy to find. You could even place them in a folder and add it as a toolbar.
