Google likes to redirect users to regional Google pages. This tutorial explains how to reset Google to the US version.
Google tries to be smart. Sometimes, it tries to be too smart.
If Google thinks you are from a foreign country or region, it likes to redirect you to your regional Google page. For most people, using their own regional page makes sense. However, this would be annoying if you prefer the plain, generic English version.
These steps worked for me:
- 1. Open Internet Explorer (IE).
2. Clear your cookies.
3. Allow your system to accept cookies.
4. Navigate to the following: http://www.google.com/ncr
Clicking on the Google in English link in Google should reset your cookies as well.
For those of you who are interested, the “ncr” probably stands for “no country redirect.”
If anybody has a better way, please let me know. Some people just bookmark the English links, but that does not seem to be as clean to me.
