IE7: Playing a Sound When RSS Feed is Discovered

IE7 can be set to play a sound each time a feed is discovered on a web page. This can be quite useful to some and annoying to others depending on their preference. Here’s how to configure Internet Explorer 7’s sound for RSS feed discovery.

To enable sound upon RSS Feed Discovery:

1. Open Internet Explorer 7.

2. Go to the Command Bar, click Tools and select Internet Options.

3. Select the Content tab.

4. Under Feeds, click the Settings button.

5. Under Advanced, check the Play a sound when a feed is found for a webpage checkbox.

6. Click OK.

7. Click OK to close the Internet Options window.

With this enabled, each time IE7 discovers RSS feeds on a webpage, it will play a sound. You can change the sound by going to your Control Panel and selecting Sounds and Audio Devies (XP) or Sound (Vista). Go to the Sounds tab and scroll down to the Windows Explorer section. Click Feed Discovered. Now go to the bottom and click the Browse button and go to the new sound file that you wish to use. Click OK.

To disable sound upon RSS Feed Discovery:

1. Open Internet Explorer 7.

2. Go to the Command Bar, click Tools and select Internet Options.

3. Select the Content tab.

4. Under Feeds, click the Settings button.

5. Under Advanced, uncheck the Play a sound when a feed is found for a webpage checkbox.

6. Click OK.

7. Click OK to close the Internet Options window.
